progress update

we have re recorded the alley way scene we werent happy with and have made our OTS shorter by using more jump cuts, we have also done our voice recordings and put them into our OTS, we have still got to put music to our OTS then we have completely finished it. after that we will evaluate as a group our OTS and talk about what we could have done better, we will also put our original OTS on the blog to show our improvements, jordan will be doing this, we have also got to put our continuity task on the blog.

Editing Our OTS

Today Jordan, Luke and me started to edit our OTS using iMovie. We are all now familiar with the software having using it more, making it easier and faster to work with! We haven't finished editing the whole thing, this is because we still need to cut out scenes which we don't need. And also we are going to re-record some scenes as we thought we could do far better (alley way scene). Also today we started to work on the voice-overs for our characters.
Luke has talked about what/how/why we edited our OTS on his blog................

Semiotics

semiotics is the use of a sign or signifier in a media presentation, its the way a symbol is used by a director etc to signify something in the production, such as an alley way is used alot in scary films and has now become a signifier as we are used to an alley way leading to danger. when semiotics is applied it is used to raise awareness of the subconsious effects of the image, such as a gun doesnt just signify a gun to americans it signifies manlyness and pride and patriotism, this is because different signs mean different things to different cultures. to have the effect of semiotics in our OTS we are using an alley way in our OTS as it instantly signifies something bad is going to happen and therefore creates tension for out OTS which fits well for our film noir theme.

Influences For Our OTS

we had many different influences for our OTS, we all drew influences from different films we liked and different techniques we wanted to use, the main base of our film is that it is set out in a film noir type, we all wanted it to be black and white. the story line has many different influences as well, i thought about bassing it around the idea of a shane meadows film-dead mans shoes, because i thought the basic concept of the story fitted in well with what we were doing and worked well for film noir, me jordan and luke also came up with using a red tint on clothing and interesting objects as well as the black and white, we go this idea from Sin-City but unfortunately this would have taken too long and we did not have the resources neccesary to do it. Jordans main influence was the dark knight, he thought that there was alot of extreme close-ups in the film and the use of light and shadows would work well for our OTS as it had a film noir feel about it, luke gave us ideas from
